In the fall of 2023, I decided to try making homemade soaps. Throughout the years I tried different things and took on part-time jobs to help supplement a second income for our family. I started a cleaning business back in 2014 and that never quite grew, so I started cleaning for a family friend's business. The task of cleaning morphed into learning new skills and later graduated into me being a part-time employee. As the years have gone, I am extremely grateful for the opportunity that I was given. Not only was I able to help supplement a second income for our family, but I was also able to homeschool our 3 kiddos and go back to school to learn about herbal medicine.
With everything our oldest has gone through, I have dived deep into learning as much as I can about natural ways of supporting our bodies. This is where the homestead bug hit me hard! I've always had some form of garden, be it a 4x4 box or even pots on an apartment patio. I was always growing something. In 2021 we stepped out and found our little slice of homestead in the suburbs. We closed on our house after we got back from a Homesteaders of America convention.
Since we've been here, I have felt the pull from God to bless our community with the overabundance from our garden and with the knowledge from my Horticulture/Floriculture class in high school. Sadly, I've fought that pull and never fully stepped out in full faith with God. I've always held my part-time job as my safety net and just played homestead a little.
Well, this year is it. I have asked God to forgive me, and I gave my 2 weeks' notice at work. Last Thursday (March 28, 2024) was my last official day. With that, this homestead and everything we do and have the ability to do will be my full-time job. So, every product that is bought from us, goes to help support our family and our community.
Since giving my 2 weeks' notice, God has shown up in different ways and it leaves me in awe. He has placed different individuals in my path who have offered advice. As well as opportunities for growth with animals, who can not only help our soap adventure but also the health of our family. To each of you, I say THANK YOU!
Thank you for being that vessel for God to use to pass his message along. Because he knows I can be pretty hard-headed at times...
